I’ll be the first to admit, I used to be overwhelmed with being a successful woman. But it didn’t involve my children. I wanted to climb the career ladder. I wanted to make all the money in our family. I wanted my own business. But it didn’t bring me happiness.
When I finally stepped away, from the consumerism, the constant need to keep up with the Jones, I felt a stillness. And maybe a little bit of guilt.
This. This is what I’ve been missing? Intentional moments with my littles. Teaching them. Watching them explore the world around them. And just genuine presence.
I don’t care what my home looks like anymore. I don’t need to have all the new things. I just want them to be happy and know they are loved in our home.
Children are not a distraction from more important work, they are the most important work.

Next week starts the actual work but we’re getting prepped by shopping at @walmart for all our essentials!
We snagged weed and feed lawn fertilizer, sun and shade grass seed, landscape fabric and landscape pins! I can’t wait to show you what this area will become in the next month and all the work we put in to #growyourgardenatwalmart 🌱

Home canned beef stew. Our personal favorite canne

Home canned beef stew. Our personal favorite canned recipe we’ve done so far.
Technically this is venison but you can use beef if that’s what you have. We had stew meat in the freezer we needed to use up.
1. Brown your meat
2. Add your meat, celery, carrots, potatoes and onions to a large stock pot. Add any seasoning at this time too.
3. Add broth. I did a mix of beef and chicken broth.
4. Let simmer until your vegetables are soft but not completely mushy.
5. Hot pack into quart jars and pressure can for 90 minutes. I used my digital @nescoappliances canner.
I’m usually not a beef stew kind of girl but this was AMAZING!

Save your strawberry containers. They’re basically free seed sharing kits. Drainage holes on the bottom. Humidity dome on the top.
I started all my lettuce plants last night in these and knew they’d be perfect for our climate as they are cold hardy plants.
Reuse and recycle. Learn how to save money the smart way. I’ve spent $40 on seeds this year. And $20 on some soil and accessories. Plus our library has a free seed bank and we take advantage of that too!

Just got this huge 15” @lodgecastiron skillet so let’s make a super easy potato egg bake in it.
1. Start by heating up some butter in your skillet. Then add diced potatoes and cook until soft and browned.
2. Add your seasonings in. I used salt, pepper, garlic salt, and everything seasoning.
3. Once your potatoes are cooked, remove from heat and make wells in potatoes. Crack eggs into wells.
4. Bake at 400° for 9-11 minutes until eggs are baked but not hard. Sprinkle with cheese and bake until melted.
This is an easy meal I make in a pinch since I almost always have the ingredients on hand!

The easiest Easter craft you’ll ever do! A terracotta carrot!
I have so many pots laying around and when I sat the disc on top while cleaning, I thought hey, that looks like a carrot. Outside I went to source a stick and some greens. A little hot glue later, and we have ourselves a giant carrot!
Nothing like some last minute Easter decor!

Don’t pitch those strawberry tops!! I bought 5 quarts of berries the other day because they were $1 and wondered how I could reuse the tops. So we made a strawberry syrup for flavoring homemade lemonade and iced tea!
To do this all I did was -
1. Add your strawberry tops to a large pan
2. Add 3 cups water and 2 cups sugar
3. Bring to a boil then simmer for 5-10 minutes
4. Strain the strawberry tops out and add to a glass jar. Store in the fridge for several weeks!
Even if we don’t use all of this syrup up, that’s one less thing wasted from our food!

Probably the easiest canning recipe I’ve ever do

Probably the easiest canning recipe I’ve ever done. And it’s just plain ole carrots.
I bought way too many with my grocery delivery not realizing how big 5 lbs was! So I canned them up and plan to use them in soups this spring.
I peeled and sliced my carrots. Save your peels for broth in the freezer!! Then filled up my quart jars with the carrots. I added 1 tsp canning salt to eat jar, then poured boiling water over the top leaving 1” headspace. Place in your pressure canner and can for 30 minutes. I use a digital pressure canner! It’s extremely reliable and I don’t have to stand around and watch it. It doesn’t hold as much as your traditional canner but realistically I’m only doing 4 quarts of one thing at a time anyways so that hasn’t bothered me. These carrots took me 10 minutes to prep and throw in some canning jars and place in the canner. So easy to do and less food wasted from the landfill!
