I thought it was time we did a proper introduction to our family! So hi 👋🏻
I’m Hayden, mama to two beautiful girls and the worlds most incredible husband.
5 years ago we bought a dilapidated farmhouse on 26 acres fresh out of college. We had no idea this is where we’d welcome 2 beautiful girls and a lifetime of happiness!
9 months ago I quit my career and jumped headfirst into becoming a SAHM and a homemaker. And I’ve never been happier or more fulfilled in my life.
We don’t pretend to keep up with the jones here. We’re simple blue collar folk. My husband is a welder and pipefitter and works many hours. I spend my time cooking, tending to the home, the kids and doing what makes me happy.
You’ll find everything from cooking to canning, gardening, marriage, raising strong woman, and everything home here!

Don’t throw away your scraps!!
I save all my veggie scraps in a gallon bag and toss them in the freezer. When they’re full, it’s broth making time!
I used scraps from onions, carrots, celery, mushrooms, and zucchini. Threw it all in a large stock pot with water and boiled for 3-4 hours. I ended up with VERY concentrated stock with 10 quarts and 6 pints 👏🏼 Something I’ll never have to buy at the grocer again!

I’m on a roll for the month of #canuary and today it’s Apple pie filling!!
I actually picked up six huge boxes of bulk discounted produce from our local grocer and one of those boxes was nothing but apples. For about $5 in apples, I made 8 pints of apple pie filling.
We had at least 5 lbs of apples. We peeled and cored the apples and then sliced into our preferred size. I then put them into the biggest pot I had and added 1 1/2 cups sugar, bringing mixture to a boil and cooking until apples were just how I liked them. You cannot make apples softer baking them in the oven so keep this in mind.
Once my apples were good and soft, I added 6 tbsp lemon juice, 2 1/2 tbsp cinnamon and 1 tsp nutmeg.
Because thickeners aren’t safe to can, simply add cornstarch when you prepare your pie and filling if you feel it needs thickened. I honestly don’t think mine will even need it.
Then water bath your cans for 30 minutes! I used my @nescoappliances pressure canner because it can water bath too and I don’t have to really do anything with it while it’s going.
I ate a big heaping spoonful last night and it was delicious!! I did pack two jars way too full and they did siphon so to be safe, hubbys coworkers will be getting an Apple pie this week 🤣

A $2 sack of potatoes had started to grow eyes, so we turned them into shelf stable garlic potatoes for easy dinners!
We simply cut off any eyes and diced the potatoes. Then we boiled them for 5 minutes. Once they were boiled, we added them to quart jars. In each quart jar we added 1 tsp garlic, 1 tsp oregano, 1 tsp basil, 1 tsp canning salt and 1/2 tsp pepper. Fill your jars with hot water and pressure can for 40 minutes! I used my @nescoappliances digital pressure canner for these ones!
No potatoes wasted and now we have garlic potatoes to warm up in a pinch!

Last year, I sobbed finding out I was creating this life. We weren’t ready for our first, and we certainly weren’t prepared for a second.
I watched my life change before my eyes. I quit my career unsure of what lay ahead. I felt a pull. To be here with my girls. To be present. And to live a life we as Americans no longer strive for.
I wanted to be a woman. A mom. And a wife. A homemaker.

✨Shelf stable taco meat✨
Yes, this can go right in your pantry. And it’s already cooked so simply warm up and pair with your favorite taco toppings!!
Did you know you can pressure can meat to make it shelf stable? Why do this? Mainly so you can save space in your freezer. But also in case of power outages, we won’t lose this meat. And for easy quick delicious homemade meals!
I simply browned my venison but you can use any ground meat! Then added some tomato paste, water and taco seasoning. I made sure to leave some water in the meat for canning and didn’t cook it all off.
I used pint jars and hot packed them. Then pressure canned in my @nescoappliances pressure canner for 75 minutes. Easy peasy!
Anyone else love a good venison meal?!
