As most of you know, I am so obsessed with the industrial farmhouse modern look! So, of course, when we decided to do a mini renovation to our guest bath, I incorporated metal pipe yet again. We originally used pipe to build our entertainment center. I then built a more elaborate industrial wall shelf for in the kitchen (you can see that here). For the guest bathroom, we built two small industrial shelves, as well as built a toilet paper roll holder from pipe. I will share that tutorial with you when I blog about our total bath renovation.
Industrial Wall Shelf
How To
In order to purchase your supplies, you need to decide how wide you want your shelves to be. I was fine with small shelves since they were going over the toilet. I didn’t want them to stick out and hit people in the head! I chose 6″ wide boards and my hubby cut them to 34″ long. These are both customizable to whatever size you prefer.
When purchasing your pipe, there is usually two color options: galvanized metal and black steel. I chose the black steel for the guest bath but chose galvanized for the living room and kitchen. There is also different widths of pipe. 1/2″ is a good size and I use this for almost every pipe DIY. This is also a customizable option depending on preference.
Supplies
For each shelf, you will need (2) nipples, (2) end caps, and (2) flanges.
You can find everything you need here and customize it for the sizes you want.
1/2″ x 6″ Steel Nipple $2.07 ea.
1/2″ Floor Flange $4.92 ea.
1/2″ End Cap $1.34 ea.
1″x6″x8 Pine Board $4.71 ea.
Any wood that you prefer is fine. I also chose to stain my wood with dark walnut.
Since I built two shelves, my total for this project came out to be $33.32. We had the wood laying around from another project. I also think this industrial wall shelf would look awesome with an actual piece of old weathered wood. Unfortunately, I don’t have any of that laying around.
When hanging the pipe, you want to make sure you are either putting the flanges in a stud or using drywall anchors to support them. Pipe is heavy, especially with a shelf and decor on top of it!
This is such an easy project anyone can do it! As always, thanks for checking out the blog today!
