I typically don’t go all in with Valentine’s Day decor but this year I decided to try to keep up with all the holidays! Even if it’s a few simple, budget friendly DIYs, I’m going to try to make it fun!
I was inspired by a friend of mine who had made a heart garland from some vintage lace napkins and linens. Although I didn’t have any of those on hand, I did have vintage coffee sacks.

Step One: Cutting
The first step is cutting our your hearts. You want these to be symmetrical so fold your fabric in half. Cut your first heart out. Use this one as a stencil to cut the rest of your hearts out.
I made two different sizes. A larger one and a smaller one.
Step Two: Pin
Use your pins to pin your two side of your heart together. You don’t need many. Just enough to make sure your hearts don’t move around when sewing. You only need basic beginner sewing skills here!
Step Three: Sew
Using a basic straight stitch, sew around the outside of your heart, leaving about a half inch inseam. No need to flip these right side together, because we want that unfinished edge!
When sewing, leave the bottoms of your hearts open, so you can stuff them!
Step Four: Stuff
Using your Poly-Fil stuffing, stuff your hearts. You don’t want them bulging at the seams, but semi firm.
Step Five: Sew Up
Sew up the bottom of your heart. Make sure to line up your stitching with your precious stitch. Trim the edges of your hearts if needed to even them out.
These would make the cutest Valentine’s Day decor whether displayed in a bowl, on a garland, or just sitting in a tray!
Step Six: Hot Glue
I had extra twine laying around that I used for my Garland. I layed our my twine, lined up my hearts, and hot glued the backs of the hearts to the twine. Hold the twine on either side of the glue for 10 seconds to ensure it’s held well.
Valentines Day Decor: Heart Garland
I strung my heart garland along my headboard in our master bedroom. I had just taken down the winter decor and it was feeling bare in here. To add a touch more, I thought pink tulips made the perfect Valentine’s Day decor and put some in my vintage bottles and a bunch in a vase on the bed.
I’m curious to know how you decorate for Valentine’s Day? Do you use mostly diy Valentine’s Day decor? Or where’s your favorite spot to purchase it at?
