Eek! I can finally share our budget friendly living room makeover with yall! I've been sitting on this idea for a while, not really sure what to do for the living room wall decor. I kept coming back to this vintage inspired floral wallpaper at Photo Wall and knew the blue and green color scheme would be perfect for this room! We made sure to video the entire wallpaper installation so you guys can see how to install wallpaper too and just how easy this project was!
How To Install Wallpaper
What's funny about this project is that my husband pretty much did the entire thing! He kept asking if I wanted help on this project, and I insisted I could handle it. Bu the more I thought about it, the more I realized it's easier to hang wallpaper with two people. I had the job of applying the wallpaper paste directly to the wall. He then followed behind me by applying the wallpaper sheet on the wall, and we worked together to make sure the seams lined up, and that all places had glue. The wallpaper paste takes a while to dry, so you can readjust the wallpaper panels.
We purchased the "Oh The Tulips" wallpaper print from Photo Wall. They were kind enough to give me a discount code to use for 25% off. Use twopawsfarmhouse2021 for 25% off your order! You can find this particular floral and botanical wallpaper design by clicking here!
We also added one of their wallpaper kits to our order because it comes with all necessary tools for installing the wallpaper. The wallpaper itself comes with the dry paste, but we figured it was helpful to have all the necessary supplies as well versus purchasing separately.
The great thing about ordering wallpaper on their website, is there is no guesstimating how much wallpaper you actually need for the project. You can simply measure the length and width of the accent wall you plan on wallpapering, and plug that into their calculator on their website. They tell you to add an additional 4-8" for error, and then it calculates the exact amount of wallpaper you will need to order!
Floral Wallpaper In The Living Room
And for the reveal of this gorgeous vintage inspired floral wallpaper! Bold and moody interiors are all the rage right now, and it totally fits my personality! The other accent wall on the opposite side of this room is a diy faux brick wall, but since this conjoined dining + living room is actually two separate spaces, I wanted something different on this wall. The installation of this wallpaper took us about 3 hours from start to finish, and the hardest part was really managing to get the first piece to fit correctly around the door frame. The less cuts you have to do, the easier when installing wallpaper.

I already know I will get questions on the sliding library ladder that accesses our loft bedroom above our living room. This was hand built by my husband and I have an entire blog post dedicated to this DIY sliding ladder how to. We purchased the hardware from Amazon for an extremely affordable price and it is specifically built for library ladders. The ladder has also helped me figure out how to divide a room into two spaces. Our living and dining room are one skinny, conjoined space. I needed to figure out a way to separate them and by placing the ladder here, we were able to separate the two rooms without a wall.
How To Decorate Around Floral Wallpaper

I wanted to display items behind the couch, so I came up with the idea to create a behind the couch shelf. I took two boards, and placed them on the back of the couch. I used L brackets to secure it to the wall. This way I can place items on this shelf, and not have to secure them into the walls creating more holes. I then decorated using vintage picture frames and an old chippy window.

We kept the sofa neutral and incorporated a large sectional sofa for our family. I use two ottomans that match the sofa to maximize our space and make one large bed couch for movie nights. The neutral sectional looks so good against the bold pop of the new wallpaper wall! We used a large sofa chair on the opposite side of the ladder to also create a kind of diy room divider.

Some people may be intimidated by a bright floral wallpaper and not know how to decorate around wallpaper. I incorporated home decor pieces using the color tones from the wallpaper which was mainly blues and greens. Using a blue and green color scheme I added a large green trunk, painted the top of our coffee table a blue hue, hung up a floral tapestry, and displayed vintage framed floral prints. Every piece I added went with the color scheme in some way, and made decorating around wallpaper less intimidating. It helped that this particular wallpaper used many different colors and was easier to match my home decor to.
Because the wallpaper was floral themed, I was able to play around with that, using flowers throughout the room. Don't be afraid to mix colors! You might be surprised at what can look good together!

After completing our very first real wallpaper installation, I can honestly say this is a project we would 100% tackle again. Photo Wall's instructions were SO easy to follow and the wallpaper we ordered was super high quality and up to our standards. I can see this wallpaper lasting a very long time and holding up to the test of time as well. If you are in the market for a floral and botanical wallpaper, search Photo Wall's wallpaper selection.
