It's that time, reveal day! If you've been following along with the One Room Challenge here on my blog, then you know for the past 6 weeks, we've participated by renovating our upstairs bedroom, better known as my office. This room started out as basically just a storage space. It had cheap linoleum, a very uneven ceiling with peeling plaster, and random texture all over the walls.
Let's throw it back to the before!
Before

Progress
I'm known for irrational decisions. So I randomly decided to rip up the linoleum flooring one day. The only time so far that my irrational decisions have served me right. Look at all that gorgeous wood flooring. Even covered in lime green paint, I knew they were going to be perfect!

While we were restoring our wood floors in our laundry room, and had the drum sander rented for the weekend, we went ahead and tackled these floors too. We had already budgeted for the sander rental in our laundry reno, so this room was technically free!

Because our walls had a bad plaster job, and some texture randomly, I decided on a paintable beadboard wallpaper. I found one here for $.33 a square foot! If you've ever wallpapered, you know this is UNHEARD of at that price! I ordered 300 sq. feet and my total came in right at $100 for the whole room.
It was my first time wallpapering but because this was pre-pasted, all I had to do was cut to size, soak it in water for a few minutes, and hang. Our plan was to hang trim along the ceiling to hide my shiplap edges, and the edges of my wallpaper so I really didn't worry about perfection there.

Once the wallpapered had dried for 24 hours, I just simply rolled white paint over the walls. This was so easy and only took a few hours as the wallpaper was already white, so one coat of paint was all it needed!
Once everything was all painted and wallpapered, we started on the floors. You can see how we refinished our 100+ year old floors here in the laundry room. I chose to continue this trend and simply use tung oil. No stain or poly needed. Check out the tutorial linked for all the dirty details on that and why we chose this finish.
The only materials you will need are pure tung oil, cotton cloths and gloves!

You can see how the tung oil doesn't necessarily change the floor's color, but just brings it to life by giving it a rich, warm tone and highlighting it's patina. The floors were so dry that the single coat of oil soaked in super quick. Therefore I'll want to go back over it and add a few more coats to ensure the floor is properly protected and moisturized.
