We tackled such a fun project this past weekend! Since Ryan has moved out and into a new room upstairs, we decided to do a mini playroom makeover in her old bedroom! PPG Paints sent me the paint to test out, and the playhouse was a Christmas gift we decided to give Ryan early. This project was one of my quickest transformations, and one of the most powerful! Follow along to see how I did it, or visit my YouTube video below to see it in action step-by-step.

Step One: Painting Wall

Start by painting your wall using your foam roller. I like to use these on shiplap because they tend to drip less and get each board effectively. This paint is a one coat paint and would have been had we used a brush. But I wanted thin coats so we did it in two.

I painted all of the shiplap with one coat, then proceeded to add the scallop trim. Then went back and finished my second coat of paint.
Step Two: Scallop Trim
I did not paint the top piece of shiplap because this is where I was going to add my scallop detail. I just grabbed a kitchen bowl that was the size I needed and using masking tape, taped at the half way mark on the bowl. Then I lined this up with the shiplap, and traced around with a pencil. I continued this along the entire top piece of shiplap until I had my outline.

Next, using a paint brush, fill in the scallop detail. Go slow, to ensure you have no mistakes. You could even use a smaller detail brush but I tend to have a steady hand.

Step Three: Decorate The Playroom
Being so close to Christmas, we decided to give Ryan an early present with her playroom makeover. I started by assembling the frame on this camper playhouse and then added the cover that came with it. It is huge and such good quality.

The camper playhouse was so easy to assemble and took less than ten minutes. I knew it was really going to make this playroom! You will need ample space for it, or you can check out the other playhouse I’ve linked below. They are all available via Crate + Barrel and well worth the investment!

Playroom Makeover Reveal
And for the playroom reveal! Ryan was so proud of the pink and freaked when she saw her camper playhouse, so she hopped in the photo! Seriously thought, what a difference a can of paint and a piece of furniture can make! This room is so fun now!!

The scallop trim on the wall is my favorite part! It adds so much detail compared to if I had just painted all of the shiplap. The wallpaper was something I had already done in this room a long time ago when it was a bedroom. You can see my tips for hanging peel and stick wallpaper here. The wallpaper is by Roommates and is actually really affordable.

I used to have a blue area rug in here but the size was too small. This room is one giant square and needed a larger area rug to go with it. I ordered this colorful pastel one from Boutique Rugs. I was nervous because of all the color, but honestly this room is just one big palette of color. Anything goes. It works so well in here and is so soft and cozy!

Ryan loves allll the twinkle lights, and you can find these really anywhere. Walmart, Amazong, and Home Goods/Marshalls has really affordable and cute ones all the time! Some are battery powered, some plug into your outlet. Just make sure to read the box beforehand depending on what you want.

We have hooks all over the playroom for Ryan’s various costumes. It’s the one thing she tends to collect a lot of and she wants easy access to play dress up.

I seriously can’t get over how adorable this camper really is! If you’re worried about the space, it comes down and goes up so quickly, that you really could dissemble it every time if you needed to. Since this is a permanent playroom, we leave it up. She uses it every single day!
