We have been grilling machines this summer, and today I am going to introduce you to the tastiest ground pork recipe I think we’ve ever tried!! It’s no secret that we love tacos around here. We incorporate them at least once into our weekly menu, but if you’ve never tried a taco with ground pork, you are missing out!
*This post is sponsored by the National Pork Board. As always, all opinions and recipes are my own!
I’m usually not a fan of ground meat in my taco, but when my husband started making them using ground pork, I was a believer. So I finally convinced him to share his tastiest ground pork recipe, and this is it! It’s also a plus that this is a very simple recipe with minimal ingredients, but it packs the flavor!
1 lb. Ground Pork
1 Tbsp. Garlic
1/2 Cup Sweet Chili Sauce
1/4 Cup Water
The Main Ingredient – Ground Pork
Obviously our main ingredient in this is ground pork. We had a pig harvested already and waiting in our freezer, that’s how much we love pork and we know where it came from! Pork has so much flavor, you really don’t need to add much for seasoning. But we added some salt, pepper and garlic salt. That’s really up to you.
We’re going to be cooking this on our Blackstone grill which is a flat top grill, and we use the heck out of it! It’s our main summer grill and perfect for browning meat!
Place your ground pork on your grill and get to browning! This is just the same as if you were to brown it in a pan on your stove, but trust me it will taste so much better on the grill, and is the perfect way to cook your pork in the summer time!! You could also use a grilling basket if you are cooking pork on a traditional grill and don’t have a Blackstone.
You’ll want your pork mostly browned before adding the rest of the ingredients, but we’ll continue browning it as the other ingredients are added.
It is a misconception that pork must be cooked until juices run clear and the meat is white! With modern pork production practices, commercial retail pork is safe when cooked to an internal temperature of 160 degrees, which is a light blush pink color!
Next up is the red cabbage! You can buy this at your local grocer for about a buck a piece and it is such a tasty addition to your tacos! We sliced it up, and then added it to our pork on the grill. You want this to get nice and soft, not crunchy!
Mix the cabbage in really well with your pork, and let it continue to cook!
Almost every single meal we cook contains minced garlic. We LOVE garlic. If you aren’t a garlic fan, you can skip this step but I highly recommend it if you do like the flavor of garlic! Pour this over your red cabbage and ground pork cooking on the grill and mix it in really well too!
Sweet Chili Sauce
And this is where it gets GOOD! To really give these pork tacos some flavor, we picked up a bottle of our favorite Asian style sweet chili sauce! You can find this in any condiment aisle and any brand will do!
Once your pork, cabbage and garlic are cooked almost all the way through, pour this sauce over the top and mix thoroughly. You want this to coat your pork!
Now for the finishing touch, your tortillas. You could simply warm these up, but we went a step further and decided to brown these on our Blackstone grill too! Make sure not to overcook them, just leaving them on long enough to brown, and make sure to flip them half way through.
Now plate those bad boys up, and enjoy a protein packed meal that is so tasty, you’ll want to make it for your next summer get together!!
I seriously ate three of these, and then went back for more!! You could also add any other toppings you want such as sour cream, but they were so flavorful alone, I didn’t want any other toppings on mine! This recipe was so EASY, that we’ll be making it for our next family event! You could feed so many people with this meal and they’ll be talking about how good it was all summer long!
