Oh my goodness, have I been dying to get to these wood windows in our conjoined living and dining room! I seriously had no idea what a difference just painting them would do for this space, but I am in awe! And I’ve found the BEST product for painting windows!! It made this project so easy, and the fact that I was finally able to paint something without using pesky painters tape was a win in my book!
Black is all the rage right now, and I’ve really wanted to try out some black windows. But windows are expensive, so I wanted to find an easy way to paint my existing ones. When I heard about Jasco® Mask & Peel™ Liquid Masking Tape & Primer I knew this was the project I was going to use it on! I seriously despise using painters tape for anything. I’d much rather try to keep a steady hand, than take the time to apply tape, and then become disappointed when I pull it off and it didn’t work. So I picked up a quart of this at our local Home Depot, curbside of course, and got to work!
If you’re looking to order curbside pickup, I’ll post a snapshot of what you need to order online! It comes in a larger size as well if you are planning on painting many windows, but for this size project, I only needed a quart and I still have plenty left over!
Jasco® Mask & Peel™ Liquid Masking Tape & Primer
Black Interior Paint
Windows – Before
This is what our windows looked like before I decided to paint them. The windows are actual wood, so both the window and the trim were pained the same shade of white. With these being one of the main sets of windows, I wanted them to be bold, so black is what I chose.
I started out by simply wiping down the windows and the trim to remove any dirt or dust on them. This way both my liquid masking tape and paint would have a clean surface to grip onto.
Step One – Applying Jasco® Mask & Peel™ Liquid Masking Tape & Primer
Now for the fun part, liquid masking tape! This was such an incredibly easy product to use and is something everyone should have on hand if they are painting windows. You simply brush a thick coat of it on the glass and trim and let it dry! Then you can get to painting! This creates a barrier between the paint and the actual glass window, and when we are done painting, I will show you just how easy it is to remove it!
I just used a 2″ paint brush I had on hand, and made sure to generously brush on the Jasco® Mask & Peel™. You can see in the photo below as it started to dry.
Step Two – Paint Your Windows
Once your Jasco® Mask & Peel™ Liquid Masking Tape & Primer is completely dry, which takes about 30 minutes, go ahead and start painting your windows. You can even paint on the glass now, because you are going to peel up that liquid masking tape and it will take the dry paint with it! I did have to use three coats of paint, just because I was going from a very light color to a very dark color. But once I had my paint finished and it had time to dry, I got started on removing the Jasco® Mask & Peel™ Liquid Masking Tape & Primer.
Step Three – Removing the Jasco® Mask & Peel™ Liquid Masking Tape & Primer
Now for the beautiful part of this process! Yes, I know the windows look messy right now. But I promise, all that work we did is not for nothing. Removing the liquid masking tape will reveal a super clean paint job, and all without the need for applying pesky painters tape!
Using a sharp blade, score the liquid masking tape all the way around the window, and simply peel it off in one big sheet. You can see the difference in the below photo with the top window already having the liquid masking tape removed, and the bottom window that still has the product on it.
Once I had scored the edges of the Jasco® Mask & Peel™ Liquid Masking Tape & Primer, I went ahead and started peeling it back in the corner, removing it from the window. And that was seriously how easy this was to use! It revealed the cleanest paint lines I’ve ever seen and left absolutely no sticky residue on the window. And the instructions were pretty straightforward too, with no second guessing whether I was doing this the wrong way! That’s my kind of DIY!
After – Painted Windows
And now for the after!! Ahh, I seriously love it!! The black is perfect and really makes this window pop now! I added some new balloon style curtains so we can actually admire the black window now and see the gorgeous view of our farm outside!
If you needed a sign to paint your windows, this is it! You seriously won’t regret it after realizing just how easy it actually is to paint them!
Now that I’m obsessed with this new painting product, what’s next?! I’m thinking this would be perfect for painting a wooden mirror frame!! Stay tuned!
