I found this bench swing in a thrift store years ago. It was half off and $7. I didn’t have a place for it but just knew at that price, it had to be mine. It sat in our basement for years collecting dust until recently I came upon it and decided it needed to be used before the girls are too big. So I dug it out and off we went to the hardware store to find what we needed to get it in a tree.
We found the perfect tree overlooking the field and my new garden with a big limb to support it.

I picked up two eye hooks, two caribeners and 15’ of chain. Whatever you choose, you’ll want to make sure it can withstand the weight of anyone who will be sitting on it. The cost of the hardware actually cost more than the swing itself. I also made sure to coat the swing in a spray polyurethane. I wanted to keep the chipping paint but have it stand up to water and weather.

Then measuring your eye hooks, choose a bit and drill into your tree. Place your eye hooks into the tree and use your caribeners to attach your chain to your swing.

This was such a simple project and every time I walk by the swing, I just smile. The girls are going to make so many memories out here and I can’t believe I’ve had this old wood swing in hiding for so long. It deserved a permanent spot on the homestead.
